Yellow buses dot the streets every morning and backpack clad children are a frequent sighting Monday to Friday. That’s right—it’s back to school season.
This year, in addition to planning a morning routine and contemplating how best to encourage your son/daughter to do their homework every night, we hope you'll also consider how you can help your child embrace the Choose To Be Nice message.
Here are 5 ways. Of course there are countless other ways too!
1. Suggest they reach out to the new kid in school.
Starting at a new school is hard and some kids may find it difficult to make new friends. If there’s a new kid at school or in class, please encourage your child to reach out to them for a play date, share a snack in the classroom or invite them to sit together for lunch in the cafeteria.
2. Remind them that we humans come in all different shapes and sizes.
Everyone looks different, and that’s okay. Beauty is on the inside :)
3. Remind them that simply making eye contact and smiling go a long way in making someone's day brighter.
Everyone loves to be greeted with a friendly and refreshing smile.
4. Please and thank you never get old!
Remembering their manners when speaking to their friends, teachers, the bus driver, workers in the cafeteria, etc. demonstrates how polite they can be. Manners never go out of style.
5. Recommend they offer to help in any capacity.
Have a conversation with your child about being helpful. Teachers are always looking for helping hands! An extra hand during recess or an offer to stay after class to help with a project could make a huge difference in their teacher's day!
These are just a few ways you can help your child live the ideals of Choose To Be Nice this year. Do you have any other ideas?
